Bar Transfer Course (BTC)
For lawyers called to the Ghana Bar
Ghanaian practice — called after Ghana School of Law, enrolled with audience before every court as barrister and solicitor — is a common-law formation close kin to the English bar. Your call and your court record carry this route.
Your practice doesn't stop. The course is online and paced for working lawyers — chambers in Accra or Kumasi by day, study when your matters allow.
Travel to the United Kingdom is limited to the assessments, the ten Qualifying Sessions with your Inn, and your Call to the Bar of England & Wales. We help you plan the trips around your term.

Every BSB document — and where you get it in Ghana
The BSB's document list is written in UK terminology. Here is what each item is called in Ghana, and which body issues it — so you never have to guess which local document matches which requirement.
BSB asks for
Certificate of Good Standing
From each regulator or professional body you are regulated by or registered with. An admission certificate is not accepted as a replacement.
In Ghana, that means
Good-standing confirmation from the General Legal Council
From: The General Legal Council, which maintains the lawyers-in-good-standing list; the Roll of Lawyers itself is kept by the Judicial Secretary (s. 6, Legal Profession Act 1960) and published by the GLC
Your certificate of enrolment is an admission document — request current good-standing confirmation; enrolment alone is not accepted.
BSB asks for
Certificate(s) of recognition of rights of audience
Evidence of the rights of audience you hold. Confirmation of completing rights assessments with a training provider is not sufficient on its own.
In Ghana, that means
Confirmation of enrolment on the Roll — audience before all Ghanaian courts as barrister and solicitor — with your current annual solicitor's licence

BSB asks for
Chronological CV
Educational qualifications and employment history, with the job title and a list of duties for each role.

Include your enrolment date, chambers history, and the courts you appear before — circuit, High Court, Court of Appeal — with duties per role.
BSB asks for
Certificates & transcripts of formal qualifications
From undergraduate degree level onwards — academic, vocational and professional awards. Transcripts must show modules studied, marks obtained, overall classification or grade, and dates of study.

University degree certificate + transcript, and your Ghana School of Law qualifying certificate

BSB asks for
Certified English translations
Required for any document not originally produced in English.
In Ghana, that means
Certified English translations — rarely needed, as Ghanaian legal documents issue in English

BSB asks for
Case list (where applicable)
Significant criminal and/or civil cases where you appeared as an advocate, emphasising cases you led on your feet. A separate document, preferably tabular: case title/number/citation, court or tribunal, month(s)/year(s) heard, a short summary and outcome, and your role (leading, assisting). Confirmation from the court or a supervisor's co-signature is recommended where possible.

Reference / experience letters
Letters from referees who can speak to your legal experience and practice.

Local names and issuing bodies were checked against Ghana's own regulators and statutes — verify them yourself below. Regulators change their processes, so once you apply, your advisor confirms the exact list for your profile before you request anything.

Indicative travel
You'll need to be in the UK for your assessments, for the 10 Qualifying Sessions every transferring lawyer completes with the Inn, and for your Call to the Bar. Budget your own airfare and stay — we'll help you group these into as few trips as the Inn's calendar allows.
$2,100 to Blackstone + ~£2,420 to UK bodies + BPP's assessment fees + your travel.
BPP sets its own assessment fees and publishes no fixed figure — confirm current rates with BPP directly. We'd rather leave a gap here than quote you a number we can't stand behind.
14 days to change your mind
Your first $210 registers your place and is documented in your portal — it is not a commitment you cannot walk back. Change your mind within 14 days of enrolment and we refund your tuition in full, provided the course has not substantially begun. After the 14 days you can still cancel future installments; fees for months you have already accessed are non-refundable.
Fees paid directly to UK bodies are governed by those bodies' own refund rules, not ours. Read the full terms.
UK fees are paid directly to the Bar Standards Board, Lincoln's Inn, and BPP. They are set by those bodies and subject to change — figures verified July 2026.
